In 1961, a Russian Cosmonaut became the first man to go space. Two years later, a female Cosmonaut, Valentina Tereshkova followed suit. The next woman astronaut would not enter orbit for another 20 years.

Many women have contributed to the space race behind the scenes but NASA has not always been as progressive as it is today. In the 60s, the Mercury Program trained women pilots. Even though they proved to be as competent as their male counterparts, the program ended with none of the women ever entering space. Now, the Armetis program at NASA includes women from all walks of life and in 2024, a woman will land on the moon.

The Making Space podcast tells us the stories of the women who who are leading the modern day space program. The most intriguing episode may be about Mimi Aung, the woman who developed the ingenuity helicopter that landed on mars last summer. Its impactful to hear how far women have come. Making Space gives women a strong voice in the space program and the opportunity to imagine themselves in the great beyond.
